Baby signing teacher Susan Atkinson is celebrating after her class for pre-school children was

Voted  the very best in Orkney.

The class, which welcomes babies from 7 months to 2 years, won the top prize in the

National awards from the UK’s biggest parenting site Netmums.com.

The group beat off competition from many of other classes in the area – and will

Be listed as the area’s best on the Netmums website.

Developed with the help of Speech and Language professionals and recommended by experts, Sing and Sign is Britain’s longest running and best loved baby signing programme. 

Mums praised the class for being friendly and the highlight of their children’s week.

Susan, from Kirkwall, will now receive a certificate from local Netmums Editor Emma Maxwell.

Over a million mums were able to vote for the awards, making them the UK’s biggest

Parenting prize.

 Susan said: “I was surprised and touched to hear that my class had been nominated, let alone go on

to win! The Netmums award means so much, as it’s voted for by parents. There’s something very

special about inspiring young babies to communicate-I think baby signing is amazing, and it’s

wonderful to know that so many local parents agree!

Netmums founder Siobhan Freegard added: “Pre-school classes are one of the very best

ways to bond with your child and provide hours of fun for all the family. We were

very impressed by the high standard of classes in Orkney but Sue, who runs the Sign

and Sign class, was a worthy winner.
