About Me
Hi, my name is Zoe and I run the Sing and Sign classes for Swindon and Malmesbury. I am a mother of 2 children, both of which were signing and communicating fluently through sign from the age of 12 months.
I first heard about baby signing before I had even had children, when I saw my niece communicating through sign, I just knew I had to give my own children this opportunity. Seeing a child communicate through sign is a truly amazing experience.
When my daughter Mya was born, I found Sing and Sign Swindon and Malmesbury. Mya was a very socially anxious little one, and the structure of the classes coupled with the music, really complimented her character and her need for routine! Having only a 23 month gap between my children meant that Mya could also communicate with Jay long before he could speak.
I found Sing and Sign to be the best programme for me, as the groups are split by age, therefore appropriate signs can be delivered to them at the optimum time. For example we start with routine signs like bedtime, feeding and bath time. By the end of their Sing and Sign journey they have colours, food types, weather and even phonics under their belt, setting them up beautifully for preschool/nursery or the educational journey they have ahead of them.
Studies have shown that signing children have a greater concept of listening and understanding, grammar and sentence structure. In essence this should be no surprise as they are communicating in this way already through sign, so naturally it should follow when speech develops.
These little ones have so much to say and Sing and Sign will help them to achieve this much earlier than if you waited for speech. Babies can easily become frustrated and sometimes tantrum because they are not understood. With Sing and Sign this is alleviated, as they can tell you what is troubling them.
Here in Swindon and Malmesbury, we run 3 specially tailored classes for the following age groups:
Babes (0-5+ months) – A gentle introduction to baby signing with lots of gentle bonding and sensory experiences, age appropriate signs, tickles and Jessie cat Fun
Stage 1 (5+-14 months) – A progressive syllabus of signs, songs, instruments and props designed to deliver the most appropriate signs to you and baby at the most appropriate time.
Stage 2 (14-24 months) – A progressive syllabus teaching parent and toddler signs to help prepare them for early years education. Phonics , colours, numbers, the potty and so much more.

Babes: These classes are for babies up to about 6 months. They are very gentle classes built around bonding and sensory experiences, a few age-appropriate signs, instruments, tickles and fun!
Babies/Stage 1: These classes are for babies aged around 5+-14mths. The classes are great fun and ideal if you have little or no signing experience. The baby classes cover basic routines such as meal time, bath time, nappy change and bed time. It also offers signs to do with babies’ interests such as animals, vehicles, toys etc. There are well over 100 signs covered during the weeks of the baby classes. In an ideal world (eg not going back to work!) you will come to two terms of baby classes; you will find that as your baby develops you will pick up different signs that become more relevant in the subsequent term. There are many mums who have come back for a 3rd term of the baby class.
Toddlers/Stage 2: These classes are great for toddlers aged 14 months+. By now your child will have come to two terms of Sing and Sign (some exceptions apply) and may be starting to toddle, if not run about, and possibly attempting their own conversation with a few words. You both know the routine and many signs. Well, now the fun really begins. Not only do we have new concepts and signs relevant to their increasing interests and awareness but this is their opportunity to move around with the music and become an extremely active participant in class. These classes cover colours, the weather, simple counting and we even have a great song for potty training. Also you’ll be able to learn the phonetic alphabet.
If your child is old enough to attend the toddler class but you haven’t done any signing please do get in touch with me as it might be possible for you to go straight into the toddlers. How we use our waiting lists
Before booking opens our waiting lists may open to enable you to register your intention to join a particular class. Once booking opens, existing Sing and Signers are given the option to re-book first and the remaining places will then be offered in order to the waiting list. This also gives us the option to possibly add extra classes if there is a demand.
Once a class if full you will still see an option to add yourself to the waiting list. Places can only be offered in this instance if we have had any last minute cancellations.

Nurseries
Does your child attend a nursery?
Sing and Sign has an excellent Nursery Affiliation Programme which will train staff on their own premises at a time to suit all. We will teach staff a selection of signs, tailor made to the nursery's individual requirements and design an Individual Action Plan to inspire staff and make signing fun and easy to incorporate. Following training, the nursery will receive a Certificate of Sing and Sign Affiliation together with ongoing access to our signing resources and a complimenatary package of products.
If your baby attends nursery or you know of a childcare facility that would be interested in receiving further information, please do pass our details on, or contact us at the number/email above.Local Sing and Sign Affiliated nurseries:
