  Hi, I'm Gemma and I live in Buxton with my husband and daughter. Many thanks for taking the time to visit my page for more information on Sing and Sign for the Buxton, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Whaley Bridge and Tideswell areas. 

  A bit about me:

  I have being doing Sing and Sign with my daughter since she was around 5 months old and we have both thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so that I decided to leave my corporate life and teach Sing and Sign instead! I truly believe that it has enhanced my relationship with my daughter and helped to keep the number of toddler tantrums to a minimum because she has been able to communicate from a very young age.

  If you cannot make a listed class or it has sold out you can still join in the fun! Sing and Sign @home lets you join in at a time and venue to suit you. Our @Home courses have been fantastically well received by parents and babies alike (it's how I learned with my daughter!). Each lesson is available for 7 days so you can come to class as often as you like each week!

  All stages of Sing and Sign explained

  Information for Autumn term 2024! 
  

  The Autumn 2024 term will begin week commencing 16th September and an 11 week in person term will be offered for Stage 1 (6-18 months approx). This includes a Christmas special included in the course fee! My babes (0 - 5 months) term will be offered as a 5 week course. There will be a two week break for half term (week commencing 28th October and week commencing 4th November) then classes will resume week commencing 11th November.

  Babes: 0-5 months (approx)
  

  In this 5 week course you will explore eye contact, gesture, facial expression, commenting and anticipation as we explore communication with your baby through the joys of music and being silly! These classes will lay the groundwork for building bonds with your baby through communication. You will then have the option to join up for a further 5 weeks.
  

  Stage 1: 6 months - 18 months (approx)
  

  In this 11 week Autumn term you will learn signs for use in daily life and routine, including bath time, nappy change, the wind down for bed time as well as animals and vehicles. We also begin to lay the foundations for signs to explain emotions such as happy, sad and angry. In total there are around 100 signs used during the Stage 1 term. But there is no expectation to remember all of the signs at first, these will become part of your daily routine and therefore will be remembered with ease. Each week we explore key themes and will provide key signs which correspond with this, these should also be practiced at home. We will repeat key signs and songs in class each week.

  Each of our songs are catchy and packed full of useful signs but please don't worry if you think you cannot sing, there is no obligation to. The key thing to remember is the communication with your child and the repetition of of using the sign AND the word. The classroom based environment is only the start, the real learning takes place at home as you continue to use key signs. Please note the atmosphere for these classes will be relaxed and fun. This means you do not need to keep your child on your lap and have them pay attention. They are free to roam and play. After all, it will be you learning the signs!
  

  Cost
  

  Babes: This term is 5 weeks long and will cost £32.50
  

  Stage 1: This term is 10 weeks long and costs £65.

  In addition to the 11 week in-person classes, with Stage 1 you will also get 365 days of GOLD membership to the Jessie Cat Club - an amazing online resource containing all things Sing and Sign. Gold membership includes access to the @Home classes - 10 weeks of pre-recorded video classes that correspond to the content of the in-person classes so if you can't make it to a class for any reason you won't miss out on the content for that week!

  Each week, the content of the pre-recorded online class compliments the theme of that week's venue-based class and is available for 7 days.

  If you are unable to make our face to face classes or fancy a progression to stage 2 (not currently offered in person) we also offer the 10 week @Home courses for stage 1&2 costing £50 per family, and includes an annual subscription to the Jessie Cat Club - a years access to our fantastic supporting resources. Also, if your child is not in the age range for in-person classes then you can still complete the @Home course! Please get in touch if you wish to discuss which course would be best for your family.

  A little about Stage 2: 14 months - 24 months (approx)

  If your baby is a little older, and more mobile, you may feel ready for a little more action and activity! In this 10 week course you will learn signs for colours, the weather, discovering opposites and the phonetic alphabet. All to be enjoyed through the magic of music! There are opportunities in Stage 2 to get up and move around (but this is not essential to have a good time!).
